Scotland B1″s win European Championship
13 proved unlucky for the other 12 nations competing for the European men’s B team title but not Scotland B1’s sporting the lucky howeveryoulikebreak.com logo.
With an early morning start on Saturday 11th May the team won their final group game to finish top with an 11-10 win over England B.
Both Scotland B1 and England B progressed straight into the semi final with the next 4 teams competing in a play off to see who faced them in the semi final.
The last 4 teams standing saw Scotland B1 v Wales B and England B v Scotland B2. Scotland B1 got off to a bad start losing the first 4 frames but battled back strongly to level at 4-4.
The Welsh kept their noses in front the entire match and leading 10-9 they had 2 chances to to get into the final.
The Scotland team showed why they were pre tournament favourites with class bottle and experience took the match 11-10.
England B found themselves 10-6 down to Scotland B2 in the other semi and looked likely it would be an all Scottish final but under the most severe pressure the Scotland B2 team couldn’t convert the many chances they had and the England B team won the last 5 frames to win 11-10.
In a repeat of last years nations cup in Malta the final of the European Championships came down to Scotland B1 v England B. England once again raced into an early 4-0 lead but Scotland didn’t panic and again showed the class to fight back and level the match.
With two evenly matched teams this was going to come down to who had the best bottle under the championship conditions. England B found themselves on the hill at 10-9 up but after a failed skill shot by them Chris Slack of Scotland had the chance to take the match to a decider.
With the black ball hanging over the bag any mistake would have crowned England Champions but the charismatic Slack doubled his last ball to take the championship to a deciding frame.
Scotland’s Hope’s rested on the shoulders of former snooker pro Jamie Burnett and after a tactical battle the 148 man decided to go game, leaving himself an awkward thin cut into the corner bag the tension couldn’t have been greater, Burnett was the coolest guy in the room as he screwed his extension on his cue the Scotland lads huddled together, Burnett produced and the celebrations started with a stampede of Scots running towards the hero of the nation.
The nations Cup Champions of 2018 added the 2019 European Championships to the trophy cabinet.
Team Scotland was captained by Robert Edment winning his 4th international title his team was Jamie Burnett, Chris Slack, Bryan Taylor, Lewis Mchoul, David Riggins, Dawud Qadir, Robert Stephen, Ryan Fisher and Chic McCaig.
