As one door closes another one opens and at q school it’s no different, Event 2 started today just hours after we knew the names of the fantastic 4 player’s who qualified from event 1.

Fang Xiongman ( pictured below) started event 2 in stunning fashion with a 4-0 victory over James Silverwood. Fang stroked in breaks of 53,62 and 106 on route to victory. Fang showed in his short time on the main tour that he has a big future in the pro ranks if he can sharpen up the safety side of his game because his scoring prowess is there for all to see.

Chinese darkhorse Pang Junxu started his q school campaign with a 4-1 victory over the talented Chen Zhe. Pang wasn’t in the original q school draw and didn’t play in the first event so we’re not quite sure how he’s in it now but he’s a very fine player as he showed in the world championship qualifiers by beating Stuart Carrington 10-6 and pushing our own player Kurt Maflin in a great standard match which he narrowly lost 10-7. Pang will be one of the favourites to qualify if he finds the same form as he did in the qualifiers.

Alexander Ursenbacher got his event 2 campaign off to a really positive start with a 4-2 victory over Yu Kiu Chang. Ursenbacher was on fire today making breaks of 55,55 and 131 and it’s great to see the young Swiss star showing what he’s capable of. 

Luke Simmonds ( pictured below) beat the likeable Gary Coulson 4-0 to get his q school campaign off to a great start. Simmonds was a fantastic junior winning the world under 21 and world amateur titles back in 1998 but never made the grade as a pro and Simmonds will be hoping his undoubted talent will shine through this week to earn a tour card.
