Stephen Maguire battled back from 9-7 down and needing a snooker to claim one of the most dramatic 10-9 victories the Crucible has ever seen.

With the match virtually gone Maguire fluked a blue and cleared up to move within one frame of victory and held his nerve to claim his second round spot and a potential meeting with Ronnie O’Sullivan.

Ding Junhui claimed his place in the last 16 with an excellent 10-7 victory over Anthony McGill. Ding fired in 9 breaks of 50 plus including 3 magnificent centuries and he looks close to being back to his best.

Gary Wilson won an 80 minute final frame to claim a classic 10-9 victory over Luca Brecel. Wilson battled through a swing of emotions to win his first match at the Crucible and will now face Mark Selby or Crucible debutant Zhao Xintong.

Niel Robertson continued his excellent form with a dominant 10-1 victory over Michael Georgiou. Robertson powered in 8 breaks of 50 plus including 2 stunning centuries and he looks like the man to beat in this current form.
