Maguire comes through Cahill test

Stephen Maguire came through an emotional rollercoaster to defeat Crucible debutant James Cahill in a 13-12 thriller.Maguire who led 9-7 overnight found himself 11-10 down then 12-11 up before an amazing deciding frame victory. Maguire told howeveryoulikebreak.com reporter Emma Maflin “I’m just relieved to get over the line and now focus on the quarter finals, I was bang under pressure playing an amateur and James played so well and would not go away so every credit to him on his debut”.Maguire will now face the winner of Ding Junhui and Judd Trump for a place in the semifinals.


Gary Wilson shocked former world champion Mark Selby with a stunning 13-10 victory and booked his place in the quarter finals. Wilson who led 9-7 overnight powered in breaks of 52,86 and 92 to wrap up an amazing win and will now face the winner of the Ali Carter vs Zhou Yuelong encounter.


David Gilbert booked his place in the quarter finals of the World championships with an excellent 13-9 victory over Mark Williams. Gilbert powered in 2 centuries and 9 other breaks of 60 plus on route to victory. The Tamworth cueist has long been a fans favourite of howeveryoulikebreak.com and it would be great to see David fulfill his undoubted potential.


John Higgins and Stuart Bingham are locked at 4-4 after an up and down first session. It was a session of missed chances and both will feel they could be leading with all to play for tomorrow.
