John Higgins produced one of his vintage performances to beat David Gilbert 17-16 in one of the most dramatic semi finals the Crucible has ever seen. In a match that was filled with every situation and emotion you could wish to see, You just knew we were going to get a deciding frame, Gilbert had the first chance in the decider and made 28 before missing a tough black to the right corner pocket which gave Higgins a prime chance for Victory, Higgins made 55 before running out of position. There was a short bout of safety play before Higgins potted an acute red to the left centre pocket to claim victory. Higgins spoke to howeveryoulikebreak.com reporter Curtis Braithwaite after the match and said “I’m over the moon to come through that match, David is such a classy player and put me under immense pressure and i don’t know how i got over the line”. Higgins who has lost the last two world finals will be determined to make it 3rd time lucky against Judd Trump.
Judd Trump ended Gary Wilson’s fairytale story with a 17-11 victory and will now play in his second world final against the same man who beat him in 2011 (John Higgins). Trump who won the master’s earlier this season was 14-10 up going into the final session and wasted little time this evening wrapping up victory with breaks of 54,88 and 97. Judd spoke to howeveryoulikebreak.com reporter Emma Maflin and said “Ive been working so hard on my game and i really want this, It’s been my dream as a child to lift the world championship and i will be trying my absolute hardest to win this”.
Great shout outs to Gary Wilson and David Gilbert who have entertained us royally throughout this tournament and both will be in the winner’s enclosure sooner rather than later.
