Bingham rock steady in Gibraltar

Stuart Bingham produced an outstanding display of scoring to dethrone defending champion Ryan Day 4-1 and win the Betway Gibraltar Open.

Bingham started the final in positive fashion and looked on course for a possible maximum break but missed a red to the centre on 48 and the defending champion Day swooped in with an excellent break of 83 to take the opening frame. The former world champion who has been in breathtaking form all week hit back immediately with a clearance of 100 to level the match.

Bingham then tightened his grip on the final winning the next two frames with breaks of 84 and 103 and although the fifth frame was close, Bingham kept his composure to clear the colours and claim Gibraltar open Glory.

Bingham’s scoring prowess has come to the fore this week as he has powered in 9 centuries and a host of other notable contributions on the road to glory and he will be amongst the favourites to lift a potential second world crown at the Crucible in April.

The race for llandudno (Tour Championship) was settled when David Gilbert lost to Ryan Day in the Quarter finals which meant Stuart Bingham and kyren Wilson claimed their spots in next week’s lucrative event.

Snookerfans.co.uk player Kurt Maflin kept up his positive set of results by reaching the last 16 where he was defeated by the eventual winner Stuart Bingham in a high quality match which featured 3 centuries.
