Neil Robertson continues his amazing record of lifting at least one ranking tournament every calendar year since 2007 as he powered to welsh open glory.

The “Thunder from down under” fought off a stunning fightback from Stuart Bingham to hold his nerve and lift the Ray Reardon trophy.

It is a 15th ranking title for the 2010 world champion, whose first Welsh Open success came in 2007. The players went into the mid-session interval with Robertson leading 3-1, aided by breaks of 71 and 69, and he then won frame five with a sublime break of 72 to further tighten his grip on the final.

Bingham – who won the world title in 2015 and this tournament in 2017 – was on no mood to make things easy for the Aussie as he won two of the next three frames, finishing with a break of 102 to make it 5-3 to Robertson ahead of the pulsating evening action to come.

After Robertson took the opening two frames of session two with breaks of 65 and 56 to lead 7-3, Bingham roared back impressively, winning the next 4 frames in a row to level the match at 7-7. But the world No 12 could not continue the fightback as Robertson won a lengthy 15 frame then stroked in a stunning break of 83 to wrap up a memorable victory.

Robertson definitely dodged a few bullets this week notably against our Man Kurt Maflin who really put him under severe pressure but he withstood everything thrown at him to reign supreme in Cardiff.
