For the second year in a row Judd Trump has escaped a first round exit by the skin of his teeth.

Zhou Yuelong fought off a strong comeback from Mark Allen to book his place in the last 16 of the world championships with a 10-7 victory. Yuelond who built a commanding 7-2 lead in the first session kept his cool to clear up under immense pressure when it looked like it was going to be 9-8.

Barry Hawkins ran riot against Li hang as he powered to a 10-1 victory. Hawkins who has a wonderful recent Crucible record will be a very hard man to beat and has the complete match game that is suited by this longer format.
