Yan Bingtao booked his place in the semi finals of the masters with an outstanding 6-5 victory over Stephen Maguire.
Masters debutant Bingtao stroked in the highest break of his professional career a magnificent 141 in the deciding frame to seal a memorable victory.
This match had absolutely everything and it looked like Yan was going to wrap up victory 6-4 before and outrageous fluked red to the middle pocket allowed Maguire to force a deciding frame.
Today Yan showed maturity beyond his years and a steely nerve under the extreme pressure of reaching his first Masters semi final and will now face the defending champion Stuart Bingham for a place in Sunday’s final.
The match known as “El Classico” by the snooker fans around the world!! Ronnie O’Sullivan vs John Higgins battled it out this evening for a place in tomorrow’s semifinal against David Gilbert and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
The Reigning world champion O’Sullivan started of rapidly stroking in a magnificent break of 97 but Higgins roared back with breaks of 145 and 110 to take a 3-1 interval lead.
After the interval back to back centuries by O’Sullivan drew him level only for a magnificent break of 134 from Higgins to wrestle the lead back to 4-3. Frame 8 had a very tense start and after some excellent safety play from Higgins to force a mistake he swooped in and made an break of 88 to extend his lead to 5-3.
Higgins closed out the match with a classy break of 47 after a straightforward missed red by O’Sullivan and booked his place in the semifinals.
To sum this incredible match up it was an absolute classic and Higgins was unplayable tonight stroking in 3 centuries on route to victory.
